See rules for UIL One Act Play. My high school theatre company adapted this version of Romeo and Juliet for One Act play competition. The artistic concept that my director devised involves performing the show as it was in a rehearsal space. There was no real scenic design as it was simply chairs, boxes, and fabrics. My job as the production stage manager was to ensure that all rehearsals went smoothly. I created a production contract that all members of the company had to sign before accepting their positions within the company. I created a sign-in sheet and called actors when they were running late. I constructed rehearsal reports that contained notes and information from every rehearsal and sent them out daily. I called cues for the light board op to ensure that all cues were taken correctly and artistically. At the beginning of the rehearsal process, I created a monthly calendar that included company conflicts as well as every scheduled rehearsal, competition, and production meeting. When it came time for competition I created a schedule that detailed exact times of where and when things needed to be happening. I was responsible for creating and taking care of a stage management essentials kit that had various items for the company to use in case of an emergency, both on stage and in the dressing room. I created a movement sheet to keep track of all moving set pieces and props throughout the show. Through out this entire process I also took it upon myself to uplift my company and try to always have a positive energy when at rehearsal. This was one of the most emotional and important shows for not only myself but also all who were involved. I found that it was important to serve as a role model and make our last high school show one of the best it could have possibly been.
