Film Specs
Guayabera is a story that highlights the way that a young boy grieves the loss of his father. This film, written and directed by one of my closest friends seeks to show people that grief is natural and something that is difficult, but necessary to process.
I fell in love with this film immediately upon reading Emmanuel's first draft of it. I wanted to be able to help him achieve his vision because I knew that this was a story that needed to be told. He primarily wanted my technical expertise which led me to primarily focus on creating the lighting looks for the various scenes. I took it upon myself to note down all the light looks and settings in case we ever had to revisit a scene. When not actively focusing on lights, I would fill in as a body so that we could get a few practice shots, hold the boom mic, or troubleshoot various audio issues. The process of filming Guayabera was all done in Emmanuel's neighborhood or at our high school. All filming was done after musical rehearsals and took roughly two weeks. Editing was then done by Emmanuel. Overall this was an incredible journey in which I learned a multitude of new skills and fell in love with an art that I never even would have considered persuing.
